Yes, there is a new phenomenon in the dating world. Women are choosing to date younger men!
Most important in choosing a wife, of course is compatibility: sexually, interpersonally, values, whether they are kind and, of course, that you love each other: It is a feeling you have of being in the same room with that person and whether or not you are by his side, you know he is there! You put each other on a pedestal and are pleased to do anything for that person.
So when you are in the dating scene, you may find a wife you’ll be contented with long-term if you don’t limit your options to people of your age or younger. In fact, there is reason to believe you will be happier with an older woman.
This posses our question for this article. Why are women today dating younger men?
This question was addressed to us by two of our male friends of 70 years. They are both very attractive, successful men, divorced and looking of course…for a younger woman. The problem however is that the younger women they are attracted to-ones in their late 40’s early 50’s aren’t interested in them, but instead younger men. I always dated older men. Probably it was because I wanted a father figure, I don’t know, but I always dated men at least ten years older then me. Now in todays dating world looking for a younger man is now becoming more of the norm.
Throughout decades men have always been attracted to younger women. Mainly it is a physical, visceral quality. Although some men may value a younger woman because she is more likely to look up to him for security and that he may have advanced more in his career. Most women marry for security as men marry for respect, however today the roles are gradually reversing themselves as women continue to compete and grow in the work force.
However, we went about researching why this phenomenon is happening to help our friends understand this question. The “cougar woman” as she is so aptly described.
Marty Nemko Ph.D in Psychology Today summed it up with several areas.
Alfred Kinsey’s classic work on sexuality concluded that men’s sexual hormones peak at 18, women’s in their early 30s. Of course, factors other than hormones affect sexuality, for example, being experienced at sex, but a man increases his chances of sexual compatibility by marrying an older woman.
Maturity in the relationship
Marrying an older woman, on average, means marrying a more mature person.
Maturity in parenting
My mother always told me there isn’t a book available that makes a parent a perfect one. Parenting is far more difficult and stressful than most people realize when starting to conceive. It requires great maturity between parents to consistently reasonable limits but not excessive ones, remain calm, and collaboratively solve problems with your child. A 30-something is more likely to have that maturity than is a 20-something.
Have a career
Marrying an older woman, increases a couples’ chance that she will contribute money to the family income making it easier to construct sound financial decisions. She might also be in a better position to offer career advice to her partner or motivate him to land a better job.
On average, women live five years longer than men, and men die earlier of nine of the top ten leading causes of death. Current research from a BBC review, suggests this is caused by biology, not lifestyle. So, a man choosing a woman five years older is marrying his physiological equal.
Why would that matter? The average man at 80 is moribund or dead, and there now are more than four widows for every widower. So, if an 80-year-old man is married to a 75-year-old or younger physiologically woman, even if she still loves him, she may feel he’s an albatross. He likewise, may feel he’s a burden. If he had married someone five years older than him perhaps they would be more likely to be health peers and to fade away together.
By age 65, a man has at least one significant health issue. If he’s married to a 60-year-old woman, he’s married to someone who, on average, is physiologically ten years younger and thus likely healthier and more vigorous, physically and mentally. If you’d feel more comfortable growing old with someone in similar shape to you, consider an older woman.
Marrying an older woman may even yield health benefits fairly early in a marriage. Compatible energy levels make it more likely a couple will want to recreate an active lifestyle together. More women than men ages 35 to 40 want to do extreme sports such as rock climbing, run marathons, or do triathlons.
So, men of age 65. Pay attention to your health. Stay active and enjoy a partner who has the same energy level and lifestyle habits even if she is 70!
If you are one of the older women dating a younger man, please share your insights and experiences and the reason why…especially if you are in love! Take care and come back soon!
